City Guide - Mozart city of Salzburg

In 2022 all eyes will be on Salzburg. Why? Because this wonderful city at the edge of the Austrian Alps was recently chosen as the number one hottest city destination.

With their Best in Travel 2020, the experts at Lonely Planet have published their list of the top 10 countries, cities, regions and best-value destinations for the coming year. Salzburg was ranked 1st in the Top Cities category, giving it pride of place on the podium.

The baroque old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a medieval fortress sits perched on the hill high above, and the city is home to some of Europe’s most beautiful concert halls set against an enchanting mountain backdrop. Salzburg has always retained its charm. Lying on the blue Salzach, it is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and home to all the beautiful locations from the musical film The Sound of Music. And as the Salzburg Festival celebrates its 100th birthday, the small city will become a large world stage.
